Freezing temperatures call thousands of Plumbers into action….
I’m sure everyone has been well aware of the severe cold snap we recently have had to endure (how could we miss it?!), December 2010 was the coldest month recorded in the last 100 years, it also saw a new record regional minimum temperature of -18.7C which was set at Castlederg, County Tyrone, on the morning of 23 December (the record fell twice in four days).
Due to the continuous sub zero temperatures thousands of emergency calls were made to plumbers due to frozen and burst pipes, understandably this caused many householders much misery. This demand meant that the UK ’s plumbing industry could barely cope leaving some residents with little hope of quick repairs and having no choice but to vacate their homes.
Although the recent shortage of plumbers during December’s cold snap provided many UK households with days of despair it also represents an excellent opportunity to any shrewd people who are looking to retrain. Students studying a plumbing course with the Plumbing College will benefit from a combination of home study course material, traditional ‘hands on’ practical training and now free access to an interactive e-learning programme. With no previous knowledge necessary this unique blend of professional learning materials and industry recognised qualifications will offer students an excellent insight into all aspects of the plumbing industry and upon successful completion it can act as a ‘stepping stone’ into the trade.
